This problem is a strange one. I was just finishing up some editing today and my audio, that had no obvious problems before, had some crackle. The distortion was much like the crackling you get with clipping from a microphone recording on a windy day.

At first, I had a little panic but upon doing a little research I found this awesome article on Fixing Common Mac Audio Problems by Tim Brooks.

I tried the terminal “sudo killall coreaudiod” that Tim mentions and it worked but the crackle came back. A restart seemed to fix things.

I’m not sure why this problem popped up. If anyone has experienced anything similar I’d like to find out if its something other Final Cut Pro X editors have stumbled across.

These late night problems can often throw even the most experienced of us when we’re chopping a way to a deadline. Anyway, I hope Tim’s article helps.
